Silencing The Internal Chatter That Keeps Us Fear-Centered

What growth-move I'm making next + what I'm doing right now to prepare for it

Encountering a rattlesnake evokes the same fear as recording myself on camera.

🤷‍♀️

I feel like I need to be all dolled up… or people will think I just got back from 10-day fishing trip.

Strangely, I don’t feel that way when I run errands unshowered, in 2-day sweats + 4-day hair.

My bestie came to visit over Thanksgiving weekend, and we were still in sweats when she arrived. We only got “dressed” at 5:30pm when we were heading out to dinner.

If it was just us, I wouldn’t have changed.

Rural living for the win! 🤷‍♀️

This digital shit is a different ball game.

Video is a public viewing window into my weird that I haven’t been ready *(or willing) to open.

I relish that only YOU can see me when we talk (in person).

It’s psychological torture having to see myself.

My aversion runs deep… way back to the RCA VHS camcorder days.

I vividly remember having this thing shoved in my face on a regular basis.

I despised it.

I’ve always equated video to performing, not being real.

LIGHTS. CAMERA. ACTION 🫵

All I want is to be able to be ME… the real me.

The rural living, hot dog cart-pushing, health + happiness-first weirdo that has subpar lighting + can’t resist a good rant or ramble.

I’m ready to wedge the window open with a leaf blower + conquer these video-laced boogeymen, dammit.

I want to be able to flip the camera on, share what I have to say, and get back to the relationships + impact I’m in this for.

I don’t want all the internal chatter (a.k.a. mean girls in my head) to keep me from doing shit that I truly believe will be a huge growth-move — personally + professionally.

That’s the work I’m going to be doing in 2025.

INTENTION SET ✅✅

Overcoming these fears is going to open up so many possibilities.

Right now, though, I’m thinking about all the possible ways we can create video content that isn’t soul sucking or time-consuming — and I don’t mean all that long form, heavily prepped + edited shit, either — so we can ride the video wave that’s coming on this gloriously human platform called Substack, and beyond.

Would a comprehensive list of video ideas that work on + off Substack be helpful?

I kinda feel one brewing as I brainstorm my face off during these last two work weeks of my year.

It feels 75% good to make this off the cuff, no real reason other than starting the process of becoming fearless, kinda video on a day when I don’t have anything bu the real me to give you.

I’d apologize for having to expose you to this messy process, but I know at least one kindred out there needs to see me do this shit, unfiltered, unready, and unprepared, before they’re going to be able to muster up the strength to be their version of fearless… so I’m not sorry.

If this isn’t your shot of whiskey, please feel free to dive bomb the unsubscribe button and forget I ever existed.

If it is…

HERE COMES THE DOUBLE DAWG DARE…

Pass this cart-sized video on to a few friends who you feel safe with, and confess YOUR Fearless Goals for 2025? I want to get this permission slip into more of the hands + hearts who need it + carve out more safe space for YOU to admit what you really want for yourself. I want us all to know what brave + important things we’re committing to for the next 12 gloriously experimental, growth-charged months.
